Pika has the lowest entry price and every model on every plan, but Starter buys few Seedance clips. Prices, credits and App Store complaints.

Pika is worth paying for if you make short, playful clips and effects, often from a phone, and you want sound and images in the same app. It has the lowest entry price of the tools we reviewed this month and some of the best partner models on every plan. It is a weaker buy for anything long. The Starter plan buys only a handful of Seedance clips, the iPhone app is priced differently from the website, and nothing in the product holds a screenplay.

If you are still comparing tools, our script-to-video tools comparison covers the field. The side-by-side table of Pika and ScreenWeaver is on the Pika alternative page. This review covers what each plan buys and what App Store reviewers report.

Every figure below comes from pika.art/pricing and from the Pika listing on the US App Store, read on 27 October 2026.

The verdict

Pika is a fast creative studio: Pika 2.5 and Pikaframes keyframes, partner models such as Seedance 2.5, MiniMax H3, Wan 3.0 and Gemini Omni 1.1 Flash, effects apps that swap, add or transform things in a clip, Character Studio for a reusable character, and music, speech and sound effects. It is also open to assistants, with an MCP server, a ChatGPT app and an API.

What Pika does well

A Pika product page, captured on 27 October 2026

Every model on every plan. Pika does not hold its best partner models back for the expensive tiers. Free includes all models, without a watermark.

Effects that are fun to use. Pikaswaps, Pikadditions and Pikaffects replace, insert and transform things in a clip. For social content, this is the fastest route from idea to post.

Cheap models for drafts. Wan 3.0 at 720p costs 33 credits for 5 seconds, against 122 for Seedance 2.5. You can draft cheaply and spend on the shot that matters.

Sound built in. Music, speech, sound effects and a soundtrack for each clip, in the same studio.

Where Pika costs you

Starter buys very little Seedance. With 900 credits a month and 122 credits for a 5-second Seedance 2.5 clip at 720p, Starter buys about 7 clips, around 37 seconds, before rerolls.

Free is not for work. The free plan has no monthly credits, so you buy packs to generate, and it carries no commercial license.

The app is priced differently. In the iPhone app, Pika sells Standard at $16 a month, Pro at $35 and Fancy at $119, with weekly passes from $8.99. Top-up credits bought on pika.art work on the web and through the MCP server, not in the iOS app.

Unclear credit costs. App Store reviewers say the cost per generation is hard to follow, and the pricing page publishes rates for only a few models and settings.

No screenplay. No script editor, no screenplay files and no storyboard tool. Multi-shot clips run up to 30 seconds.

Pika pricing 2026: what the credits buy

Clip counts are our arithmetic from Pika's published cost per video. Fancy runs from $95 to $880 a month depending on credit volume, and adds the priority queue and, from $440, early access to new models. Parallel video jobs are 2 on Free and Starter, 8 on Creator and unlimited on Fancy. No plan adds a watermark.

Top-ups cost $1 for 60 credits on every plan, so one 5-second Seedance 2.5 clip costs about $2 bought that way, and a Wan 3.0 clip about 55 cents. The arithmetic of rerolls is in the real cost of AI film credits and rerolls.

What App Store reviewers say

Written reviews of Pika on the US App Store, captured on 27 October 2026

People praise the video quality, how easy it is on a phone and how often new features ship. The recurring complaints:

  1. Free allowances that run out quickly, and credit costs that are hard to follow.
  2. Paid plans that feel expensive for what they deliver.
  3. Inconsistent output: one reviewer gets the result they want about a quarter of the time.
  4. Regenerations that cost more credits, with no way to give feedback on a result.
  5. Watermarks on some outputs in the app.

Who should pick which plan

  • Free is for personal play: no commercial license.
  • Starter suits effects and Wan drafts, with a few Seedance clips.
  • Creator is the working tier for weekly social content, with 8 parallel jobs.
  • Fancy is for volume, priority and early access.

Final verdict: Pika or ScreenWeaver?

Pika is the better pick for short, playful clips and effects, especially at its low entry price. If your project starts from a screenplay, ScreenWeaver is the stronger fit. Writing is free on the Screenwriter plan, with PDF and Final Draft export. The Auteur plan, at $39.99 a month, generates the storyboard from your screenplay and runs Seedance 2.5, MiniMax H3 and other models on each shot, with your characters kept from shot to shot. The full comparison is on our Pika alternative page.
